This paper originated as two separate reports: Cleaning Up the Remains of Nuclear Facilities-A Multibihlion Dollar Problem, a report to the Congress by the Comptroller General of the United States, June 16, 1977, (EMD-77-46); and Nuclear Energy\´s Dilemma: Disposing of Hazardous Radioactive Waste Safely, a report to the Congress by the comptroller General of the United States, September 9, 1977, (EMD-77-41). As presented here, this is essentially the full statement as presented in hearings before the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, Madison, Wisconsin, as part of the Commission\´s continuing hearings on "advance plans for construction of facilities" as filed with the Commission for review and approval pursuant to Section 196.49, Wisconsin Statutes.
