Abstract :
The output waveform of a logarithmic detector is statistically characterized for two inputs: a sinusoid and a Gaussian signal, each immersed in Gaussian noise. A detector output signal-to-noise ratio is introduced as a measure of quality for use in a comparison of logarithmic and Kth-law detectors. The signal-to-noise ratio, as defined, is intended for use in assessing radar tracking performance and in measurement applications.
