Abstract :
This book is designed for European students and is designed to help the student meet the challenges of Bologna reforms. It introduces electrical engineering with Maxwell´s equations as a starting point. This somewhat unusual treatment is intriguing and refreshing. The book itself is divided into four parts. Part I provides a brief overview. Part II begins with Maxwell´s equations and shows how these equations are simplified to deal with stationary field phenomena. Part III deals with slowly time-varying fields, while Part IV concerns rapid time-varying fields. Throughout the book illustrative examples are provided and there is a collection of suggested homework problems that should aid the instructor. Four appendices provide a collection of useful formulas in vector analysis, complex algebra, and Fourier analysis. The book would serve well as a text book for University students, as well as a self-study guide or reference book for engineers who wish to understand the foundations on which their specific discipline is based.
