Abstract :
The application of finite numerical electromagnetic techniques to electromagnetic compatibility based problems is reviewed. The factors which determine the performance and limitations of a numerical approach are first considered. Then the operation of the three main techniques (finite difference, transmission-line matrix, and finite element) is explained. The paper concentrates mainly on time-domain techniques with brief remarks on the use of the frequency domain. An overview of recent EMC applications is used to illustrate the capabilities and limitations of each technique. Future advances are then considered
