Abstract
Excitation cross sections for some of the
upper laser states of neon and
states of krypton have been calculated by assuming a fast electron strips away one of the bound valence electrons of the neutral atom in a very short time compared to the relaxation of the ion. Exact wavefunctions for the upper laser states of neon II and krypton II in terms of pure
wavefunctions are found.
