Abstract
A radar system with M transmit and N receive antennas which are widely separated is employed to detect the presence of a target at a given point in space. This target is assumed to be composed of Q point scatterers which are closely spaced with respect to the waveforms transmitted by the radar system. The diversity gain for radar systems employing optimum processing (likelihood ratio tests) for detecting the presence of these targets is shown to be less than or equal to min(Q,MN).
