Abstract :
For gain-coupled DFB lasers with a gain grating an additional term has to be considered for the spontaneous emission rate, taking into account that the noise source distribution is modulated with the grating period. The basic advantages of a loss-grating as compared with a gain-grating device are narrow linewidth in combination with a high sidemode suppression ratio.
