Abstract :
We give here a description of the newly commissioned 60 tesla or more pulsed field facility constructed over the last three years. It comprises a 800 kJ 32 mF capacitor bank, a high current switch using either an ignitron or thyristor stack, and a crowbar circuit. The system is designed to be flexible enough to cope with a wide variety of coils allowing pulse lengths of up to 100 ms to be produced. The design philosophy, control, monitoring, data collection, and safety are discussed
