Abstract
A novel approach in signal decomposition and data compression is proposed based on the maximum energy principle (MEP) of multiple transforms (MEPOMT). The complementary property of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and wavelet transform (WT) in signal decomposition makes MEPOMT an efficient data compression method for signals containing both narrowband and wideband components
