Abstract :
The reasons and the performance of the dissymmetry of the armature-rail system were studied. The current distribution and its force the dissymmetry of Armature or rail in C-shaped armature were analyzed by finite-element method. The calculation was performed with a monolithic armature. As a preliminary study on the dissymmetry of Armature-rail system, a 40 mm square-bore railgun with an asymmetrical travel-length of 1800 mm was fabricated and tested. Launch experiments were conducted to verify the analysis results. The current density distribution and force in reclaimed armature was analyzed. It was found that the dissymmetry of Armature-rail system affect the performance of railgun.
