Abstract :
This paper describes a nonmechanical two-input two-output (2 × 2) optical switch using the electrooptic effect in PLZT ceramics. An alkoxide process and a hot-pressing technique are used to obtain homogeneous PLZT ceramics. This switch has low insertion loss (<1.9 dB) and fast response (<70 ns), and it is easily applicable to multimode fibers with connectors.
