Abstract :
Based on analogies between electromagnetics and quantum mechanics, we introduce a method to calculate the electronic subband structure in finite-barrier quantum wires of arbitrary shape. Our method is computationally simple, and results are in satisfactory agreement with both mainframe computer solutions and with analytical results for finite-barrier systems, which are introduced here
