  • Abstract
This paper presents an advanced technique to optimize both the fuel consumption and the depleted energy in hybrid electric vehicles. This technique is based on an interactive graphical design tool known as Stateflow which works under MATLAB/Simulink environment to model and simulate event-driven systems. Three different energy management strategies of parallel, series and parallel series HEVs are developed and comparatively examined based on simulation models. For the purpose of empirical evidence, these models experience two different drive cycles; both are dedicated to hybrid technologies aiming zero emissions. The results emphasise the preference of specific powertrains over certain driving conditions with respect to the overall efficiency enhancement.
