Abstract :
Vibrationally excited Cl2was found to strongly decrease the gain in the CO2laser amplifier whereas an increase in gain was produced by vibrationally unexcited Cl2. The results are interpreted in terms of the near resonant V-V energy transfer between Cl2and the ν2mode of CO2.
