Abstract
If one is managing any sort of risk that is controlled by engineered systems, the failure of which could lead to harming of people, the environment, or the bottom line, it would be advisable to be aware of the methodologies and concepts contained in BS IEC 61511. This article looks at the safety lifecycle concept and offers some suggestions as to how this might be used by managers to improve their own management systems.
