Abstract :
A simple formula for the baseband signal-to-noise ratio of an FM signal under Rayleigh fading is derived. The formula automatically includes the noise component due to modulation. Calculated values of the average signal-to-noise ratio for FM and AM signals under Rayleigh fading are given. The results show that the FM signal with a modulation index of one or greater, outperforms an AM signal under identical fading conditions
