Abstract
Digital avionics technology shows great promise in reducing overall airplane system cost. The new digital electronic components are very reliable and offer great flexibility in application. Development of modular control units, for the directional controls and engine throttles, will aid standardization and gradual refinement of such control devices. A network of multisystem digital data buses can be developed to handle the complex interchange of data between interrelated systems throughout the airplane.
