Abstract
The first successful operation of a high-repetition-rate repetitively 
-switched ruby laser is reported. Using an acousto-optic switch, repetition rates up to 5000 pps have been achieved. When the laser is optimized, peak power outputs of 20 kW at 500 pps and 8 kW at 2000 pps can be expected.
