Abstract :
To cope with the higher requirements for electric power and the progress of urbanization, the authors developed a new design of gas insulated switchgear (GIS) aimed at easy restoration from internal fault. It is a 72/84-kV compound three-phase common tank type design, achieving a higher reliability than the existing GIS design through improved repairability and reduced size. Since the first GIS installation of this design at a distribution substation of KEPCO in May 1985, a total of 16 units have been successfully put into service. The development procedure, design criteria, and application examples of this new GIS design are discussed.
