Abstract
This paper presents a method, developed to optimally allocate shunt capacitors for energy loss reduction and voltage correction of electric power systems in their steady-state operation. The model is nonlinear, based on the bus impedance reference frame, and takes into account the uncertainty of load. Pattern recognition techniques and sensitivity analysis are used to minimize the number of variables of the model. Nonlinear programming techniques are used to optimize the model. Results obtained from a test system are given.
