Abstract :
A ring resonator with threefold symmetry is proposed as a planar realisation of the symmetric 3×3 fibre coupler to be used in compact integrated optics interferometers and passive optical signal processing schemes. The effect of system parameter perturbations, arising from manufacturing errors, is analysed and the device would be usable over an ambient temperature range of ±5°C although chip temperature stabilisation will improve this performance
