Abstract
The relations between the microbending losses and the mode field halfwidth (MFHW) W x1, W y1 based on the nearfield second moment (NFSM) for arbitrary symmetric noncircular weakly guiding single-mode fibers are derived. which can be reduced to the known result for circular-symmetric single-mode fibers
