Abstract
The conversion parameter of magnetic properties is defined as the ratio between the volume fractions of the magnetic and solid phases in magnetic fluids. The influence of centrifugation and high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) on this parameter is experimentally determined. The paper shows that both separation methods allow one to obtain magnetic fluids with higher values of the conversion parameter and also that long time centrifugation and high gradient magnetic separation with strong magnetic fields lead to a decrease in these parameter values
