Abstract
This work deals with Westinghouse research laboratory in East Pittsburgh. Westinghouse was one of the first large industrial corporations to build a laboratory devoted to science-based research separate from the manufacturing plant with the intent of shielding it from the pressures of solving immediate problems for the operating divisions. The laboratory expanded rapidly and many of the projects were directed to improvement of products, and development of new products. The new features of laboratory were moveable partitions along with periodically spaced utility outlets to supply electricity, gas, water, compressed air, and vacuum.
