  • Abstract
A sensor using four magnetoresistors has been developed that can distinguish between normal and shearing movements. Empirical equations have been determined to calculate the values of normal and shearing motions from the four sensors´ outputs. The use of a miniature coil with an alternating current substantially reduces thermal drift effects, improves repeatability and reduces power consumption. The sensor has approximate dimensions of 4 mm×4 mm×4 mm and therefore can be considered relatively miniature
