Abstract
Optical fibres are rarely used to communicate over distances of 10 m or less because of higher costs and architectural changes that would be required. A project called Olives (optical interconnects for VLSI and electronic systems) has been devised to develop the optical components for optical interconnections over distances between 10 mm and 10 m. The author describes recent developments in Olives
