Abstract :
A linewidth theory for DFB lasers which includes the combined effect of spatial holeburning and nonlinear gain is presented. It is shown that the conventional form of nonlinear gain leads to a small reduction of the effective linewidth enhancement factor and cannot explain the linewidth floor or rebroadening observed for DFB lasers at high output power.
