Abstract :
An efficient scheme of wavelength conversion has been demonstrated using broadband-orthogonal-pump four-wave mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) placed inside a polarisation-diversified fibre-ring cavity. The polarisation sensitivity of the converter is less than 0.5 dB. A 3 dB conversion range over 40 nm is obtained. The power penalty is 3 dB for a 10 Gbit/s converted signal at 10-9 bit error rate level.
