Abstract :
An approach to conflict resolution in rule-based expert systems that incorporates a behaviorally relevant generalization of multiattri-bute utility theory is proposed. The intent of this approach is to take into account preferential knowledge, specific to the user and/or situation, in rule selection. This knowledge will enhance the user´s perception of the system´s capability and hence the system´s acceptability.
