Abstract :
The paper describes work being done in the modelling of transformers, concentrating on predicting the effects of the stray magnetic field as it relates to transient and non-sinusoidal conditions, with particular reference to traction, rectifier and other applications. Considerable progress has been made with steady-state sinusoidal modelling using finite elements. This work will be used to show the development of an approach using Distributed Equivalent Circuits to model the transformer with transient and variable frequency effects. Non-linear permeances are modelled using a polynomial. The core loss is, at present, linear
