Abstract
The problem of finding the optimal single feature for the three-class case, where the covariance matrices associated with the three classes are equal, is considered. It is shown, after performing certain preliminary transformations, that the optimal linear feature can be obtained by searching for the zero of a certain monotone function of one variable in a certain specified narrow interval.
