Abstract :
Three finite element techniques are compared with a simple method based on conventional magnetic circuit theory. The 2D-FE method used is based on the common vector potential technique. The 3D-FE method employed uses the total and reduced magnetic scaler potential representation. It is shown that while the simple method yields only approximate answers all the finite element models give satisfactory results. The work is supported by experimental results
