Abstract :
A novel matching pursuit-based signal processing method is proposed to improve ultrasonic flaw detection in non-destructive testing (NDT) applications. The method utilises time-shifted Morlet functions as dictionary elements, since they are well matched with the ultrasonic pulse echoes obtained from the transducer used in the experiments. It is fast enough to be used in the signal processing stage of real-time inspection systems. Experimental results show meaningful SNR improvements for low input SNR´s (below 0 dB).
