Abstract :
The nature of brush contact on eccentric slip rings is clarified through the use of simple experimental models and analysis. A localized contact region is found to traverse the brush face in a repetitive pattern that is dependent upon the type of eccentricity encountered and the materials at the sliding interface. The importance of this concept in commutation and in the formulation of an electrical performance model is discussed
