Abstract :
Summary form only given. We demonstrate a touch panel that can measure the approaching velocity of an object and predict its contact time. It is composed of two optical sensing layers above the surface that has 10 kHz sampling rate, which enable velocity acquisition and contact time prediction. The error of the prediction is less than 1 millisecond, which is quiet accurate compared with existing touch screen. In this demonstration, with a voice coil actuator embedded in a stick, users experience no-delay haptic feedback by tapping the surface, and feel as if they were tapping various materials such as rubber, wood and aluminum.
