Abstract :
The soft, low speed shaft which is common in the design of large wind turbine generators makes it impossible to reclose in time to prevent loss of synchronism following most electrical disturbances. In fact, reclosing is not suggested for the prototype units; instead, the initial recommended procedure is to stop the wind turbine generator, restart and then perform normal synchronization. This paper describes methods of resynchronization which markedly reduce the time to reestabLish normal operation following an electrical disturbance.
