Abstract :
Quasi-steady state and transient convertor simulation models of h.v.d.c. transmission are compared in multimachine transient stability studies. The paper analyses their respective a.c. and d.c. system responses to typical disturbances, discusses the limitations and extent of applicability of the quasi-steady state model and justifies the need for temporary transient convertor simulation. It is concluded that after preliminary transient convertor simulation studies in a particular system, a suitably modified quasi- steady state model can be used in the assessment of transient stability.
