Abstract
The paper describes the main characteristics of the transmission networks that are used in the urban and rural areas. Existing principles of the urban and rural transmission networks´ creation are given. The subscriber transmission network is considered. The St. Petersburg transmission network is analyzed as an example of an urban transmission facility. Aspects related to commercial network creation are briefly discussed
