Abstract :
Extensive measurements have been made of radiated VHF noise from an operating 500 kV line under a wide range of weather conditions. Comparison is made between fair and foul weather noise characteristics in terms of typical levels, frequency spectra, lateral attenuation and measurement parameters, such as, instrument detector and bandwidth. Information is provided to make a reasonable estimation of noise levels throughout the VHF television band for home receiving installations near the line.
