Abstract :
In a multiwavelength switched optical network many phenomena affecting transmission are present. Some of them, such as laser chirping, fiber chromatic dispersion, optical amplifier noise and channel crosstalk, are related to optical filtering. This paper presents a study of the effects of Fabry-Perot optical filter bandwidth on end to end transmission performances in a multiwavelength transport network (MWTN) whose architecture is being demonstrated within the RACE project R2028 MWTN. A bit error rate (BER) estimation, based on a simulation model, will be given as a function of number of nodes and optical filter bandwidth. An optimum value for the filter bandwidth, which maximises the overall system performances, is obtained.<>
