Abstract :
A simple method for optimization of individual amplifier performance parameters for multiple wavelength operation is presented. The method determines the erbium fiber length required to achieve a maximum gain subject to the constraint of minimum spectral gain variations. This simplifies the practical implementation of gain equalizers required to achieve flat gain for multiple wavelength operation.<>
