Abstract :
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) technology though originally developed for military applications have gained much attention because of their capability of providing reliable wireless coverage to large geographical areas with or without infrastructure requirements. Due to their inherent limitations and the increasing number of users demanding high QoS performances, wireless mesh networks have attracted the attention of researchers world-wide to address the scalability, performance degradation and service disruption issues. The cost, size and energy requirements of radio device has declined in the last decade, which in turn enables multiple radios to be fabricated within a single device which can work in multiple frequency bands and support a variety of functions as needed. In this paper, we analyse the scalability performance of BATMAN and HWMP protocols by simulations in ns-3 considering packet delivery ratio (PDR), routing overhead, throughput and delay. New strategies for the allocation of network resources and routing of control and data packets need to be developed to provide high quality of multiple services with reasonable latency to more number of users simultaneously.
