Abstract :
Magnetic field induction from power lines on parallel fences is discussed. Estimating methods for Thevenin´s circuits are developed for cedar-post and metal-post fences with multiple wire, general-purpose and chain-link fence material. These methods are also applicable to the inductive voltage pickup on parallel railroad tracks. Cedar-post fences with a few electrostatic grounds will have the highest Thevenin´s voltages and currents. It is apparent that magnetic field induction from power lines may result in perceptible shocks. More study in this area is required to establish design voltage guidelines due to the variability of the human branch impedance, power line currents, etc.
