Abstract :
Excitation current tests on power transformers in the field have been developed for the detection and location of certain types of faults. Special techniques are explained for application to three-phase transformers to determine the specific phase in which a fault exists. Examples are cited to show how excitation current tests have assisted in the diagnosis of fault conditions.
