Abstract
Background, mathematical models and examples are given illustrating the effect of variation in redundant tripping logic on the present worth of revenue requirements in electric power generating stations. The model takes into account the total cost of ownership including capital, replacement energy, operating and maintenance costs. The reliability equations take into account spurious trip rates, random failure rates, repair times and test intervals. Adjustment of test intervals to maintain minimum cost of ownership is also illustrated.
