Abstract :
The lateral capacity of augered tower foundations was examined by full-scale field tests on two instrumented footings installed in wet sand by the slurry displacement method. The results are presented, analyzed, and compared with existing analytical methods for prediction of foundation behavior. Both the ultimate lateral capacity and deflections at working loads are examined herein and comments are made on the failure mode of augered foundations under lateral loading.
