Abstract :
Extensive switching surge tests on various live-line tool configurations for 230-and 500-kV lines have been carried out by Ontario Hydro using undamaged and punctured insulator strings. Also, protective gaps have been developed for 230-and 500-kV live-line work methods. Test procedures are described and withstand voltage levels for the various tool configurations are given.
