Abstract :
This report presents a simplified silicon-carbide surge arrester model suitable for analog and digital studies of switching transients on overhead HV and EHV lines. The report also includes a guide for the application of the model in the selection of arrester ratings and insulation levels. The model is based on current-limiting arrester designs, but it can be adapted to other designs such as noncurrent-limiting arresters. Users can also adapt the model for lightning impulse transient studies.
