Abstract
An integrated beam-steerable antenna configuration is presented in which an active resonant patch provides a simple and compact source of surface waves that radiate from a periodic surface along a dielectric waveguide. An X-band antenna has been developed and measurements carried out to determine its performance. A simple passive leaky-wave antenna model has also been developed. Comparisons between the measurements and the model indicate that the main lobe of the far-field pattern remains robust over the 0.6 GHz tuning bandwidth of the active source.
