Abstract
The present compressed gas insulated transmission systems using SP6 are being operated well below the dielectric capability of the gas. Improvements in reliability and operation at higher stresses could be achieved in these transmission systems if the effect of particle contamination could be eliminated. Results from a development program supported by the U. S. Department of Energy to achieve this goal are presented. The methods developed offer the possibility of cperating CGIT Systems at higher stresses than at present, resulting in substantial cost advantages.
